Journal Jewelry- Gold Nest with Eggs

This is a little bird nest I made with wire and a few beads.  I saw them a few years ago, making the rounds on the internet, and wanted to try.  This is the smallest thing I have tried in a long time.  I kind of gave up on beading after my eyesight went.  But now that I have learned to adapt a little, and the fatigue doesn’t get me as fast, so i thought I would try.  I am quite pleased with the way it turn out, so I made it into journal jewelry.

Finished Recycled Book

This is my third book I started during Your Stuff… Use it! month.  For this art journal I used some craft paint on news print, and then used that to cover some packaging (I believe it was a pizza box top).  For a while I have been collecting advertisements that come in the mailbox.  They are mostly for carpet cleaning, real estate, dance classes in the area, dry-cleaning, etc.  I kept them because they come in various sizes (from post card to about a 6×12 inch) and they are a nice weight (card-stock-ish).  The draw back, is they are glossy, so might be a pain to work on when the time comes.  I bound these with my current favorite technique.  (Muse said use red and yellow sock yarn with blue and teal covers. Who am I to argue?)  That was about it for this one.  Not too complicated… Kept the cover really plain, for now, but strung some beads off the end.  If you look closely you can see shells, teal and coral glass beads, and some of my paper beads.  They make me happy to touch, and to hear clink together.  =D

Altered Tool Box

I did it!  I finished my first altered object.  Do you remember the tissue box? Well, here it is now…

It actually wasn’t as hard as I thought.  I used all stuff in my home.  I covered in in white felt, and then in some flannel I had left over.  I glued on one piece of ribbon to hide the seam, and a piece of lace around the top.  I painted 2 pieces of cereal box blue, to divide up the inside.  Then a string of pearls around the top over the lace. And voila!  Kinda proud me thinks.  Already is full or tools and has an honored spot in my craft space. =D

Have you altered anything lately? Tell me about it in the comments…

warm, happy weekend…

Well, Monday is looking like a good day. I think I am on track to finish NaNo today. There, I said it. It’s out there. Now it HAS to be true.

It was a lovely weekend here. I managed to get out of the house a couple times, and it was nice, to be out in the sun, and be able to walk and see more clearly… I really enjoyed it. I am working on counting my blessings these days, and to me, this weekend was a big one.

I did lots of writing this weekend, but it was also a good one for TV and a little drawing and art. I feel productive, but I am also paying for it today. My body is sore, and I am pretty tired today. But one foot in front of the other.

So, something a little different today… when I first lost my vision, I was looking for things to do with my time, as most of my usual activities were no longer possible. One of the things my husband got me was a kit to make animals out of large beads (pony beads) for key chains. I have found a couple pictures of some of the ones I made… so here today’s pictures…

What are some interesting things that you have found to do with beads? Are you on track to finish NaNo this week?
